Why the Protea?
The protea is the queen of the fynbos. Uniquely South African, majestically beautiful, the protea is nonetheless a hardy, long-lived flower that survives in surprisingly difficult environments… and does so while maintaining a delicate elegance that outlasts the blush of more tender flora. We couldn’t think of a better appellation for our products, which sustainably make use of the magnificent flora of the Cape to bring forth lasting beauty backed by inner strength.
Why the Pearl?
Needless to say, pearls are associated with beauty and radiance, but we refer also to the folklore of the Cape, whereby the dome of Paarl Rock is referred to as ‘die Pêrel’: the pearl of the Cape. The reason for this name becomes clear when you see the granite pearl of the mountain revealed in all its splendour after the rain. This image echoes that of the enduring and majestic protea. It’s also doubly appropriate because all our Protea & Pearl products were designed in Paarl and are still produced there, with local labour and using locally grown ingredients.
But we’re not just trying to invoke local Cape symbolism with grand words so that you will buy our products. We are confident that they will withstand any international competitors, and our local ingredients present you with a chance to shine as the protea and the pearl shine.
